IMPD Fall 2019 will be Sat. Nov. 2nd – please consider coming out to help with park maintenance and beautification. It’s also a great way to get to know neighbors and explore the park and greenbelt!

Projects planned:
-Trash Pickup
-Mulch (just use up what was leftover from Spring
-Erosion Repair along creekside trail and NCWT low water crossing
-Invasive Species removal (Johnson Grass, Ragweed, Chinaberry, Ligustrum)

Optional if we can get more leaders
-landscape the raingarden area by the pool building

We are so excited to announce that Balcones Park now has recycling cans! We have gotten rid of the “trash coffins” and replaced them with NEW Recycling and Trash can combos! Thanks to all the donors that donated over the past two years! Thanks also to Austin’s Parks and Rec Dept for helping us achieve this goal!

PLEASE be aware to only throw recycling in the BLUE BINS!

We also have a new water fountain with a dog bowl!

ALSO as a reminder the Poop Dog Bags are NOT compostable or meant to have you bag your dog’s poop and leave it. They need to be placed in the trash/brown bins please. Thank you for helping us keep our park clean!

Swim Lesson Registration for Balcones Pool is ALSO Open! The Swim Lessons are in 2 week groups on every Tues, Wed, Thurs, Fri for 30 minutes and only $57! Then you can stay and practice what you learn before and after! A great way to get your kids swimming! (Save yourself the headache and do it online)

Let’s celebrate summer, our pool & great neighbors at Balcones’ Potluck Pool Party
Saturday, June 1 from 12noon to 2pm!

We welcome everyone to bring a main dish, side or dessert to help us make this a complete community gathering!

Come celebrate the end of the school year with the LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part in the park, popcorn and snow cones!!! Come early to play in the park and get your spot. Movie will start at 7:30pm.

Hi all! Milwood Baptist Church is welcoming everyone to join them this summer for Family Fun Nights!

The first is this Saturday Night – May 25 from 6-8pm.

Projects planned:

1) Trash Cleanup throughout park and greenbelt to Mopac and upstream to Dorsett. If you are familiar with the park, please consider leading volunteers to the trash pickup areas

2) Creekside Trail maintenance – remove/relocate fallen branches, move rocks off trail,spread straw and native seeds on the slope along the creekside trail.

3) Planted tree maintenance – weed, mulch, remove t-posts that have fallen, etc. Leaders needed to guide volunteers on proper mulching procedures.

4) Poolhouse landscape maintenance – weed new plantings

5) Patch small area of creekside trail near Duval – we need a hand truck and a couple of strong backs to take the concrete down to the trail. Please let us know if you can help with this!

1) Trash Cleanup throughout park and greenbelt to Mopac. If we have a really good turnout, we can go beyond Mopac along the creek and shared use path (NCWT)

2) Creekside Trail maintenance – remove/relocate fallen branches, move rocks off trail,spread straw and native seeds on the slope along the creekside trail.

3) Planted tree maintenance – weed, mulch, remove t-posts that have fallen, etc.

4) Poolhouse landscape maintenance – weed new plantings, replace/add a few plants, spread out leftover soil

5) Seed wildflowers/native grass in areas disturbed by trail work contractors

6) Patch small area of creekside trail near Duval

Optional if we can get some team leaders:
-hand pull Johnson grass from the side of the NCWT trail near mopac
